From the 80s here's a dress that reminds me of something that was worn on the television show Dynasty - I can just picture Alexis wearing something like this, all shoulders and draped fabric. The dress has a V shaped neckline with vertical draping on either side. The waist has a horizontally draped band and there is a panel on either side with draping below the waistband. The shoulders have large pads and the open back is secured in a more closed position with two ties at the top of the back. The sleeves are made in a quasi-batwing style.
Label: Joseph Ribkoff. Joseph Ribkoff was founded in 1957 and based in Montreal, Canada. There is also an ILGWU union label affixed underneath the maker’s label - this particular label was used between 1968 and 1984, so this dress would date to the early 80s.
Material: 100% Polyester. The dress is hand washable
Sizing: Size 9/10 is indicated, so according to this, it should fit a medium size, but please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 16” across seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 24” long
Sleeve Inseam: 22 1/2” long
Bust: 36” around, approximate
Waist: 29” around
Hips: 36” around
Length: 43”
It's in very good condition as it appears that it was never worn. There is still an original cardboard tag affixed to it that reads “I am a Special Occasion item and not returnable”. There is no wear, stains, fading or odors - this was well stored over the years and is in like-new condition.
This is a fun vintage dress - very dramatic, and very high styled 1980s.
